We have all had the phrase “no free lunch” pounded into our heads. Most of us think it’s true, and it usually is. There have been freebies sites on the Internet since the birth of the World Wide Web. Most of the early sites offered product samples and promotional items with their only motive being to have fun and share what they have found with others. From the beginning freebies have been a great traffic generator.
Lots of people have noticed the powerful draw of freebies and have tried to capitalize on it to make money. Making money is fine, but tricking people into “non-free” offers with the promise of freebies is not. There are literally thousands of sites that try to get people to sign up for products and services they don’t need or want in order to get something that is supposed to be free, You want to watch our for these kinds of sites because on these sites there truly is no free lunch,
There still are legitimate freebies sites out there, but even on those you need to watch out for ads and sponsored links which often come from the less reputable type of freebies site that I mentioned earlier. This site has been online since 1997 and the editor (or Guide to use the About.com term) does his best to only list legitimate sample and promotional offers.
