If you don’t see any stars, it doesn’t mean the program is terrible–it just means there aren’t any customer reviews of the program yet. This can help you gain valuable knowledge about the pros and cons of science software without ever leaving home.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, though. There are tons of science software products available on the internet that may not be listed on Amazon. Your best bet for finding these is to locate a good science educational software review site or two. You can type this phrase into your favorite search engine and see what comes up. Visit a few of those, and bookmark your favorites. Just be aware that many of those sites are trying to sell you the products they have listed, so you might not be reading unbiased opinions. If you find a site that lists the negatives along with the positives of a program, it’s usually a good one. And it’s better still if it has links to free science educational programs you can find on the internet.
